COACHING PEDIGREE

The coaches behind this league won the 2025 4A Arizona Women's Flag Football State Championship at Salpointe Catholic and took the 16U girls to gold at the USA Select Bowl. Girls football isn't a side program here — it's a specialty.

Winter Is the Offseason

The AIA season ends in November. Our Winter high-school girls 7v7 season runs January to March — the same seven-on-seven format the varsity game is played in, with real games and real reps when school ball is dark. Younger girls build toward it in the Girls 10–12U and 12–14U divisions.

Registration for each season opens in the weeks before it — follow @nflflagtucson for the announcement.

WHERE THE GAME IS GOING

THE COLLEGE GAME

Varsity Is Arriving

Girls can earn college scholarships playing flag football — today, not someday. NAIA schools already offer them, and NCAA emerging-sport status clears NCAA schools to offer athletic aid too.

  • In January 2026, all three NCAA divisions added women's flag football to the Emerging Sports for Women program — and a first NCAA national championship has been proposed for as soon as spring 2028.
  • The MEAC becomes the first Division I conference to sponsor it as a championship sport in 2026–27; Nebraska is the first Power 4 school to add a varsity program, starting spring 2027.
  • The Big 12 is working to become the first power conference to sponsor women's flag football, with play targeted as early as 2028 — Arizona and Arizona State already field club teams.
  • Dozens more programs compete today across NAIA, NJCAA, and college club leagues.

The Olympic Path

LA 2028
FLAG FOOTBALL IS AN OLYMPIC SPORT — WOMEN'S 5V5 AT THE LOS ANGELES GAMES, JULY 2028

There is a real pathway from here to the national team:

  • USA Football Talent ID Camps — open registration, combine-style testing, evaluated by national team scouts.
  • The Accelerator — a two-day, invite-only evaluation earned through strong ID camp showings.
